Hangar House

Moving Day

Sunday, December 3 - Kelli and Mike drove up to Trinity on Friday in the new Pathfinder (replacing Mike's Rodeo that was totaled by a blonde, 20-something air head on a Bay Area freeway) stuffed to the gills with stuff to move to the new house. They stopped by the new house to check on a couple things and turn on the freezer. Hangar House was nice and warm.

Lo and behold, the window sills were nearly completed! Dave is once again absolutely amazing and has done a spectacular job! It looks ssooooooo nice to have the sills done. The house is almost really done.

Let's see ... the bed frame was at the house, the faux painting was not done, seven more feet of concrete on the apron, no plumbing fixes.

It's been cold in Trinity -- in the 20s at night, 40s during the day. The next concrete pour is scheduled for Wednesday. Should be interesting to see if they can get it done. The forecast is for clear weather all week.

Saturday and Sunday, Mike and Kelli moved beds, kitchen items, food, pantry items, and miscellaneous stuff, including the cats, to the new house. Saturday night was the first official night spent sleeping at the house, so December 2 is the official move-in date. The glass company did not show up Saturday, so we hope they show up Monday or Tuesday.

Living in Hangar House will take some getting used to. The new appliances are all 21st century, and they all have electronics with audible alerts. In fact there are so many beeps and boops going on, it will take time to learn what they mean, and the tune them out. For example, the stove won't let you use the oven unless you set the clock. In fact, it won't do anything unless you decipher the international graphics sufficiently to realize the the button with the little runner on it means "start." (It looks like they borrowed the graphics from the summer Olympics.) The clothes washer won't start either until you set the clock. No more flashing 12:00 like everyone's VCR -- these appliances won't let you do anything unless you prove to them that you can set the time.

We moved into the guest room since we had to set up the new bed frame in the master bedroom in anticipation of the delivery of the new mattress and box springs on Monday. We got to wake up to the view out the window that our guests will see. We think you'll enjoy it!

Of course, we'd forgotten a few things, but we remembered the coffee pot and our tooth brushes, so we were ok. With the master bath still under (re)construction, we mostly used the guest bathroom. No phone line, so we couldn't waste time online. No TV. No radio. Amazing what you can get done and talk about without all that nonsense (time to work on beeps and boops).

The kittens were interesting. The older cat wandered about looking for someplace to hang out. The tile and hardwood floors aren't very comfortable, so it was a challenge to find the roost. The younger kitten just freaked and hid most of Saturday. By Sunday, she came out and ran from hiding place to hiding place. Her favorite hiding spot was under the comforter on the bed in the guest room. She'll mellow after a few days (we hope).

So we are in. Let's see...

  • Almost 6 years from property acquisition
  • Exactly 2 years, 4 months from ground breaking (852 days elapsed time)
  • 109 work weeks
  • 513 work days

Quite a ride. And, of course, it's not really done yet...
