Day 500 - Transition

Tuesday, November 7 - Today really felt like the transition from construction to finish-up. A lot of events happened to create the feeling.

First, and the most exciting, Dave, Rick, and John finished the safety fence on the retaining wall and Kelli removed the last section of the orange plastic fence that has been up since Day 2. I bet the neighbors are just as happy as we are to not have this color "accent" lining the house anymore...

Before working on the railings, they installed our south drain before the forecasted rain and got 3 yards of concrete set as a garage apron. In a couple of days we can drive into the garage. (That is, if, we get the garage cleaned up enough to get a car in.)

While the guys were working the concrete, Kelli planted some "test" plants in the front and south flower beds. A transition from construction to gardening...

Kelli and Rick did more gravel moving with help from our neighbor Hans. Hans used his tractor to help us move many scoops of gravel into place or closer to where the gravel was needed. We are in pretty good shape in our fight against the mud.

Even though we still have a number of projects to finish, we don't need three workers every day. John will come in to finish the tile work when Kelli picks up the missing tile next week. And Dave will finish up the rest of the work. One project that Dave started today was hanging the bi-fold doors. We didn't have the correct size of tile drill bit to install mounting hardware in the laundry room, so the first full installation was cut short...

Dave is taking tomorrow and Friday afternoon off. So with the painters gone, Dave gone, Rick and John helping with roof trusses for another project, Kelli will have the house to herself tomorrow to do some much needed cleaning and finish grout removal in the master shower. She will also have time to pack the truck for the first load of paperwork, personal stuff, and clothes for phase 1 of the transition back down to the Bay Area this weekend. And, she doesn't have to get up at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow! This will be the first "no work" day since March.

The rain started today at 5:00 p.m.
