Day 489 - Fence Columns

Monday, October 21 -- Sorry for the late posting of this page. Our long distance phone service, Internet dialup (yes, we maintain this website over 49K dialup,) and all long distance incoming and outgoing calls were out-of-service from sometime Monday afternoon until sometime overnight due to networking problems.

On to the news...

This morning we poured concrete down the center of the safety barrier columns and added tops. After a few days of curing, we can set the rails.

John cutting blocks for the column caps...

The finished product...

Dave and Kelli set a dozen boulders that Ken dropped off on Sunday. We now have a line of boulders along the property line on the north side the length of the house. Next spring, we will plant the space between the walkway slab and the boulders...

John mortared down the foyer tiles that he cut on Friday and John Bentley arrived late afternoon to replace some warped 2x2 mahogany rails on the stairs, install the mahogany balcony rail, and do final touches.

Our second asphalt bid came in at $8,500 from a contractor in Shasta Lake (these bids are completely outrageous for only doing the surface work and no subgrading) and the local asphalt contractor will not come out because they don't want to work on county property. Geesh. Plan C?
