Day 488 - Last Concrete Pour

Friday, October 20 -- Today was our LAST concrete pour!!!! Ok, never say "never," but... unless we add a concrete driveway sometime in the future, this is it. We have a tally sheet, somewhere in our construction paperwork pile, that has our concrete totals. We will dig up that number and get a grand total. It is hundreds of yards of concrete.

We had a late 11:00 a.m. delivery for the last section of the hangar apron. But having a later start gave us nice warm temperatures.

We had a false start to the pour when a very large ball of silt came rolling down the shoot. More mixing of the concrete got the texture better. The concrete in both trucks wasn't perfect, but workable and no wood this time.

For this pour, we had the air mixed into the concrete on site (since air in concrete decreases every 20 minutes of hauling time) and we didn't jitterbug the surface or power trowel.

Although there was a 30 minute lag between trucks, the pour went okay and the crew was done and everything cleaned up by 4:00.

The wind picked up pretty good about 3:00 as we were boom finishing the surface. Ken and Dave used the leaf blower to push leaves from the huge maple tree, in the picture below, off the surface.

In the morning, after getting the forms ready for the pour, John worked on floor tile and Dave and Rick worked on the irrigation system. They cleaned out and pressurized the spigot lines. No cracks so far, which is pretty amazing after driving the excavator and skid loader over the lines many, many times.

While the pour was in progress, Kelli moved all the river rocks from the front yard to along the walkway. She almost has the front yard clear of extra rocks--well at least the river rocks.

We received one outrageously high bid to do the asphalt connector from the concrete to the taxiway--$8,500. But you have to give that company credit for even returning our phone calls and being willing to come up to Trinity Center. We got a lead on another contractor and are expecting a fax'd bid from them. We have 1,500 sf of area to pour 2 inches thick with asphalt. That equals about 20 ton of material.

Mike flew in at 5:45 p.m. for another weekend of wonderful fall weather in the mountains.
