Day 480 - Apron Pour #1

Tuesday, October 10 -- It has been so long since we bored you with a lot of concrete pictures, we figure that that "pain" has passed. So here are some new shots. We did the first of three apron pours today. Today's pour was 14 yards of concrete, 52' x 17.5' x 5". The next two pours are supposed to happen on Thursday and Monday. After that, we'll have to schedule the asphalt pour to connect our concrete apron to the taxiway.

The first truck arrived at 8:30 a.m. We had 9 guys working. Gary added the color bags to the mix in the truck. The color is called "buff" and should be a dark beige. No gray concrete at Hangarhouse!

Pouring the first section...

Starting the finishing process... jitterbugging, rolling, smoothing

Second and third sections ...

End of the first truck's load--two and 3/4 sections...

Second truck arrives right on time...

Mike gets ready to "jitterbug", just kidding...

The pour is done...

Dave and Kelli talk about, and try out, aggregate seeded for the apron's feature strip...

Final finish work. The concrete was fairly wet. The moisture, cool temperature, and shade made for vvveeerrryyy slow concrete drying and frustrating finish work...

Done...

Richard came up today to work on the plumbing punch list. He replaced the drain on the spa tub so that it doesn't leak. He installed the final shower head, and he fixed a water leak at the recirc pump in the garage. He installed air bleed valves in the hot water circuits since we tend to get air in the lines and that affects the efficiency of the recirc pumps. However, at the end of the day, we found out from the recirc pump vendor that the pumps aren't installed correctly. So, we will have to have Richard back up to change the installation of the pumps. If you're interested in the recirc pumps, check them out at A.C.T. Metlund.

John works on the wood stairs...

Other progress today included Kelli continuing with the sanding and oiling of the deck railing. Mike found the problem with the switched receptables in the eaves -- the RadioRA switches were wired backwards. So, with that fixed, it seems all of the electrical circuits work. And with the 3-gang switch plate installed in the laundry room, we believe all the switch plates are ready for final.

Kelli called the Redding landscape supply company to check on seed aggregate for Thursday's pour. We need 1,250 pounds - 52' x 8' strip. It takes 75 pounds to cover 25 square feet.

It figures... not enough stone is available for a pickup tomorrow. Kelli called around to find another source. There seemed to be one good vendor, so she drove down to Redding at 1:00 p.m.  No joy. A drive across town didn't pan out any better. Tomorrow AM, we try vendors in Medford. Otherwise, we have to hold off concrete until next week. Sigh.
