Day 468 - Ipé 1

Friday, September 22 -- With the garage stair tread coating all dry from the night before, Dave and Rick started building our first ipé railing. We selected ipé wood after not being able to find select red cedar wood anywhere between Medford and Sacramento. We are using ipé on the deck railing, and getting the wood for both projects was a single stop in Medford.

Here is the first phase of the garage railing...

John finished the rock wall next to the spiral stairs...

Ken and Kelli moved more rocks around for the planters on the south side. This "end" rock is very heavy -- about 2.5 tons. The skid loader was barely able to pick up the rock. The mini excavator was not able to pick up the rock. So there was a lot of rolling, twisting, and pushing for about an hour...

Kelli prepped the garage stairs in the morning, vacuumed the house (it was full of needles and leaves from the winds this week,) did more grout chipping, and helped Ken.

Kelli left for the Bay Area at 4:00 p.m. for a sailing instructors' meeting, house project shopping, and a relaxing day of sailing on Sunday. And, to see Mike :-)
