Day 461 - Wok Wow
Wednesday, September 13 -- Richard
was up today to work on the plumbing and connect propane to the wok.
With a little caution, we fired up the wok, and wow, it does produce
some heat! Thank goodness we have a strong, high cfm ventilation fan...
Richard also got our garage faucets back online and installed a new
sump pump. A few more horsepower did the trick. The hangar bathroom
and sink are now online. What is the best part of this milestone? We
can now get rid of the portable outhouse in front of the house!!!!! Richard also swapped the hot/cold connections in the kitchen main sink, and worked on the wet bar. We learned a lesson today -- apparently, garbage disposals do not come with electrical cords ("pigtails"). So we called Ken to pick up a couple. Geesh, every garbage disposal needs a pigtail. Why would it not be included?

Rick came up to go over work still to be done by the subs and that
is needed to get us to final...

John applied an underlayment to the exercise room floor. We are now
ready for tile.
Then,
he helped Dave and Rick prep and pour the footing for the spiral stairs...

Dave welding the rebar. Is there anything that this man cannot do? After it was all said and done today, the center column of the staircase was firmly seated in concrete and it was perfectly vertical, of course. The spiral stairs will be nice.
We also had a birthday celebration - John turned 32 today. His wife
Sherry and daughter Angela came by to surprise him and bring everyone
a birthday muffin...

Kelli explaining to Angela that if she grows up strong and works hard, she'll be able to buy clothes that don't have holes in them...

Kelli did some more grout removal...

By afternoon, the winds had blown in smoke and ash from the Bar Complex
fire. At times, we could not see the hills across the lake. The smoke
cleared some when Mike left for the Bay Area, but the plane's wings
were covered in white and black ashes...

The smoke smell got strong as the evening progressed. Mike reported that he was not out of the smoke at 11,500 feet -- he could see blue sky above, but was not quite out of the muck. As he headed south, the smoke began thinning out west of Redding, and he was in mostly typical summer haze/smoke by Red Bluff. However, he reported some smoke all the way to the Bay Area.
