Day 425 - Interior Stairs #1

Monday , July 24 -- South Cox drove up from the coast (a four-hour drive) to start our interior staircase installation. The stairs will be made using alder for the stringers and wrapping, and African Mahogany for the treads. The tread stain that South and Kelli selected makes the mahogany look like teak. The wood is so beautiful.

The plan is for South to be here until Wednesday working on the stairs.

The stair stringers are ten pieces of alder laminated together...

We had thunderstorms and rain this afternoon. At one point we had 15 knot plus winds and rain. The storms help with the heat, but we all fearful the lightning and wild fire threat...

John and "new" John did cleanup around the house this morning and then moved on to another project. Pete and Dave are still hiking up in the Alps.

We had a very hot weekend, at least for Trinity. We got the boat in the water on Saturday afternoon and found a rare shady spot along the shoreline. Sunday it was just too hot to do anything, including sitting on a boat. So we took cover in the cabin with both swamp coolers running.

Our last record high on the cabin porch was June 25 when it hit 101 degrees. Sunday, the temperature hit 102. The last several weeks, the high temperature has been around 98.

Sunday evening we had thunderstorms, wind, and rain that cooled things down a little. It caused some minor damage at the local marina, but our boat was not damaged.
