Day 422 - Hot Water
Wednesday , July 19 -- Northwest
Propane came up today to monitor the powering up of the generator, three
heating units, and two on-demand water heaters. We all wanted to see
if the propane pressure could be maintained when all these units were
running. Success.
However, it did take some time to get the heaters to turn on when the
temp in the house was already 85 degrees :-)
The propane pressure only dropped 1/2" of water column. Since the
test went well, the water heaters were left on and we now have hot water
in the house.
Richard also worked on several fixes, including a leak in the wall behind
one of the garage interior bibs, installed shower heads, and turned on
the tub and shower water...

Richard increased the water pressure in the house to 55 pounds, which
made a big change in the water flow upstairs. We may need a new regulator
because turning up the pressure nearly run us out of adjustment range.
We were not able to test the sump pump in the hangar because the circuit
breaker does not work. We are not sure if the breaker is broken. (Dave
can fix it :-)
Ben and Mark came up to finish the air conditioner installation. The
units are ready to go, except that they need disconnect boxes installed and
power attached. Dave will do those connections when we get the parts...

They also connected the foyer and exercise room registers to the heating/cooling
system. One minor problem, Mark put a strap screw into one of Richard's
water pipes behind the drywall. No bigy, Richard was there and the problem
was fixed.

Ben brought up vents for the south wall and a 800 cfm exhaust fan. The
fan still needs to be installed...
More stone work...

The local freight company delivered our CableRail deck posts and post
holders...

Vermont Soapstone called and said that our order is done and is
being crated for shipping. They will call me when they have a ship date.
South Cox, our interior stair contractor, called. We talked about the
supplier problems he is having and the issues with getting the thick
wood stock that we need. He found African Mahogany for the stair treads
in Santa Rosa. A driver will go tomorrow to pick up that stock. South
will come up Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week to work on the
stairs. Then, he is getting married next weekend and will be on two week
honeymoon. During that time, the railing fabricator should be working
on his part and come up to install the railing. When South gets back,
he will come up to finish the stair and insert the wood balusters in
the railing. At least that is Plan A.
I talked to the PolyColumn dealer in White City, Oregon about getting
a price on the column "covers" for the front of the house.
Another warm day. According to the Coffee Creek weather station, the
temps hit 95 at noon and 103 at 2:00 p.m. The heat dropped to
89 degrees by 4:00 p.m. Not bad. No one on site is bothered by the heat.
We had a light breeze again.
The crews from Redding are very happy to
be here and not in Redding where it was 100+ degrees from 3:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. The temps hit 105 in Redding at 4:00 p.m.
Our neighbors, who are building the log house and bought the dome house
next to us, flew up to review the house project with Ken. Ken is taking
over the log house construction. Ken is also scheduled to build another
runway house near the end of the street. Now *there* is a portfolio!
