Day 421 - Deck Stairs
Tuesday , July 18 -- Kelli lucked
out today - her jury duty was cancelled. So she was able to spend the
day on-site.
We now have steps up to the deck. These stairs will be the shortest
number of steps to the house's first floor. Dave and Brad work
on the stairs...
Dave cut some of the deck boards. We are still trying to determine the
best strategy for cutting these boards since a 20-foot board expands
and contracts at least 3/16" within 20 minutes of being in the full hot
sun and then moving it into the shade...

Stone work continues...

Our paint contractor drove up to review the job. Donn had some wonderful
ideas about the how to make the front door standout and how to handle
the front eyebrow columns. His idea is to paint the front door a base
coat of copper, top with a bronze coat, and then burnish the edges to
create a antiqued copper metal look. The door will match the door handset
and the metal in the light fixtures. Keeping with the metal look, he
suggested using plain column "covers" and faux painting them to look
like weathered steel.
Dave, Brad, and Ken connected the house's future gutters' drain pipes
to the main french drain that runs around the hangar base. They also
installed a conduit between the house and the propane tank in case we
need to give the generator its own propane line...

Our HVAC sub was a no-show today, so the air conditioners are not connected.
I spent time cleaning up the front yard. One task was to chip out the
stone grout and mortar that fell around the base of the walls. Instead
of "bucketing" the chunks to the rock pile, Ken showed me how to operate
the BobCat and move the rubble by horsepower. Cool... :-)
It was another hot day, about 100-102. I thought that the temperature
felt cooler than yesterday. The nice breeze helped. Everyone is getting
used to the heat so working outside was no problem.
