Day 417 - Filtered Water
Wednesday , July 12 - Riley Beebee
and Scott came back to finish our water filtration system. The system
first adjusts the water's PH level; then sends the water to a mixing
tank; then the water goes into a multimedia filter tank where minerals
and chlorine is removed; then the water runs through a 1 micron filter
to remove more dirt and small parasites;
finally, the water passes by an ultraviolet (UVC) light to purify the
water.
The multimedia tank is layered with progressively
finer layers of minerals (from top to bottom):
anthracite coal, silica sand, garnet sand, and garnet gravel.
UV radiation is extremely effective
in killing microorganisms such as bacteria (E. coli), viruses (poliovirus,
influenza, hepatitis), protozoan cysts (Cryptosporidium, Giardia Lamblia),
yeasts and molds. The UV targets the DNA of the microbial
contaminants and renders them non-viable.

John and Pete installed more stone...

Dave and Brad set a few deck boards. The current issue is when to cut
and install the boards. A 20' board will change 3/8" in length in
a 20 deg temp change. The current thought is to set and cut the boards
when it is 90+ degrees and butt the joints fairly tight...
