HISTORY TIME LINE

The story ends here. We offer the story and photos for others who might be undertaking such a project. We thank everyone associated with the project for a job well done!

July 19, 2007 - The garage doors are finally installed. They look great!

February 15, 2007 - The apron is complete. The final 10' of asphalt was laid down and the hangar apron connects to the taxiway.

February 2, 2007 - Exactly 2 1/2 years from ground breaking, N3DX parks in the hangar for the first time!

January 28, 2007 - All painting is done.

December 2, 2006 - We moved in!

November 2, 2006 - We passed Final Inspection today at 10:40 a.m. PST.

October 20, 2006 - Final concrete pour for the year?

October 10 , 2006 - Finally, we pour concrete for the hangar apron. Day 480.

September 7, 2006 - The foyer compass rose medallion is in. Day 457.

August 25, 2006 - All of the counters are in. Day 449.

August 24, 2006 - The cabinet work is done. Day 448.

August 2, 2006 - Our 2nd anniversary of ground breaking. Day 432.

July 19, 2006 - Propane gas hookup complete. The pressure was tested with all appliances fired up: backup generator, two on-demand water heaters, and three furnaces. The system test passed on Day 422!

June 21, 2006 - Leach field installed, water hooked up, last concrete pour for final inspection, progress on the deck and stonework. Big day - Day 404!

June 8, 2006 - Hardwood flooring installation complete. Day 395.

June 6, 2006 - Deck starts. Day 394.

May 16, 2006 - The spa tub is installed! Day 380.

April 25, 2006 - One year of days working on the project. See Day 365.

April 13, 2006 - The weather breaks!

March 28, 2006 - One year anniversary of construction restart.

March 23, 2006 - Cabinets!! Day 341.

March 15, 2006 - Interior paint done! The first phase of painting all the interior walls, door casings, and hanging the doors is complete! Next comes cabinets and electrical fixtures. As far as interior painting goes, Donn's team comes back at the very end to do all the touch up.

February 24, 2006 - The ceilings are stained! Painting is underway. A major milestone. Day 328.

January 19, 2006 - The front door and laundry room doors are installed - the house is finally enclosed. Day 302.

December 22, 2005 - Furnaces powered up. Day 289.

December 20, 2005 - Power meter connected. Day 287.

November 28, 2005 - First snow at the site. Day 271.

November 17, 2005 - The hangar door is installed and covered! Day 265.

October 25, 2005 - Dumbwaiter is installed. Day 248.

October 21, 2005 - The roof is done. Day 246.

October 12, 2005 - The hangar door is installed!

October 6, 2005 - We passed electric, plumbing, HVAC, and framing rough-in inspection.

September 7, 2005 - Windows!!

August 26, 2005 - The "eyebrow" roof over the front porch is done. We're just about ready for roofing!

August 2, 2005 - First anniversary of the house construction

July 20 , 2005 - The roof sheathing is on.

June 27, 2005 - The roof trusses were delivered.

June 21, 2005 - Electrical boxes start showing up.

June 14, 2005 - Plumbing rough-in starts

June 10, 2005 - The tall columns on the east "balloon" wall went up. Now you can picture the view!

May 23, 2005 - The main beams holding up the second floor go up. And for a special treat, everyone paused to watch a B17 do a low pass over the airport! Check out the pictures on Days 139 and 145.

April 27, 2005 - The retaining walls outside the hangar door are done!

April 26, 2005 - The first stick wall went up -- it's the east wall in the dining room.

April 19, 2005 - The slab for the garage was poured today.

March 28, 2005 - We restarted the project today!

December 23, 2004 - We poured concrete for the garage walls and the ground level walls. After the pour, we closed down the site and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

December 10, 2004 - A foot of snow almost shut us down.

December 2, 2004 - Final ground level footings were poured -- Day 87.

November 23 , 2004 - The first floor concrete walls are up -- Day 81.

November 4, 2004 -- The first floor subfloor is installed.

September 17, 2004 -- The BIG beams are installed.

August 2, 2004 -- Construction started

July 22, 2004 -- County issued the building permit

July 14, 2004 -- County approves plans

June 11, 2004 -- Resubmit plans to County

May, 2004 -- Original general contractor quit, found new contractor; new engineering plans completed

April, 2004 -- Fired first engineering firm, hired new firm

September, 2003 -- Plans back to engineers

August, 2003 -- County rejected the plans due to poor engineering

July, 2003 -- Submitted first set of plans to Trinity County

July, 2002 -- Applied for FAA construction approval

May, 2002 -- Tore down the existing house

January, 2002 -- Started new house design

October, 2001 -- Decided that the house could not be saved and still get a hangar in. The engineer said that the house needed "a good fire."

July, 2001 -- Applied for the rear lot offset variance in order to build the hangar up to the rear property line

February, 2001 -- Bought the lot and house
